Campaign Story
My name is Susan. I am a Nigerian currently living in the US. I am currently a full-time dentistry graduate school student living on my own and going through a difficult time financially, due to a series of unfortunate incidents.
My bank account was recently hacked, and all of my funds to pay for my living expenses and rent are gone. When I contacted the bank to resolve the issue, unfortunately, they told me that there is nothing they can do because it does not appear to be a fraud and they even blamed me for not having better security for my phone and account. If I had any remaining money, I would have hired a lawyer to resolve this, but unfortunately I do not have the means or the time for that.
As a graduate student living on my own, I depend on my government financial aid to pay for my school and living expenses, as well as my transportation (which is my car, because no public transportation is available where I live, besides Uber). The money that was stolen from me was this government financial aid, which is my only source of income.
On top of that, my car was broken into, and then weeks later, my car got stolen, and now I have no way of going to school without depending on classmates who have to go out of their way to pick me up. The police did not find my vehicle, only the license plate. So now I have to somehow come up with funds to get another car that will take me to school and run my necessary errands.
I am now 3 months behind on rent. The landlord has posted an eviction notice on my apartment door threatening to kick me out. They gave me extra time to try to get the money, but if I do not pay the balance I owe as soon as possible, I will be forced to leave and I have no family here to stay with so I can continue going to school. I will basically become homeless.
My father had eye surgery and is unable to work, and my mother is a teacher, and they both live in a different state, so I cannot burden them and ask them to help especially since they are living on my mother’s teacher income which barely makes ends meet for them alone.
We do not have any savings as we are a humble immigrant family who lost our home in the hurricane, and have been jumping from one place to another since, trying to settle down until I complete my degree. We lost our house and our family cars and had to start over completely, which is why I cannot burden my family further at this time.
How you can help:
Any donations will help me cover my expenses until July 2025. After that, I will get my new financial aid from the government for the new academic year, and will be able to stand on my feet again.
-Rent Payment (4 months): $4,850
-Bills & Utilities: $260
Any additional funds will go towards getting an affordable car and paying for basic groceries.
